I am just starting out investing again after being homeless for 5 years. I work 2 jobs, one full time one part time. I am paying off my credit cards, should be payed off by June. I am 54. Should I be looking for growth or dividend? also, some of your stocks list only a 4% yield with a 15% in parenthesis. How come?

I am putting away $200 a month, more when the cards go down.

thanks

I am new to this site and am just noticing that most of the posts are at least 6 mos old. Guess I missed the boat. I have owned NAT for the last 6 mos and am very happy with it. I should've sold at $40 and bought back in at $33, but hindsight is 20/20. It's to bad FRO wants a regular dividend around $2.00 a share otherwise it might beat NAT as a better investment. After all, it ships more than just oil and has a larger fleet than NAT.

Sorry Jim, I didn't see your question earlier. To answer your question, I invest in ADRs or pink sheets.

I can already see the difference between my US & foreign dividend stocks these days after $US took a fall. I am kicking myself for not shifting more money into foreign stocks.

Frugal, do you invest in ADRs over a U.S. stock exchange, or are you investing directly in foreign countries?

I agree that foreign stocks should comprise part of everyone's portfolio. They generally seem to pay higher dividends than U.S. stocks and will definitely benefit from the U.S. dollar's seemingly inevitable continued weakness against foreign stocks. There's simply no way the the U.S. can maintain its current trade deficit without the U.S. dollar eventually weakening substantially.
