Historical Data on My Networth Page Available
Posted by Frugal on July 10th, 2006
Before I can find some time to generate plots on the raw data, which could be a long long time from now, I decided to make the raw data available on My Networth page first. The raw data does not indicate money from my regular savings, which I do take into account as new cash infusion for calculating my portfolio performance. All cash whether it’s in taxable account or retirement account, or in Bank of America, or in Emigrant Direct, I treat them to be generating 3.00% APR interest money, which I discounted from my portfolio gain.
The big thing that is happening to my networth is the continual horrendous loss in my company holdings in the forms of stocks or options. And I am very afraid that I may never be able to recover all those losses in the future years, before my stock options expire. The “good” thing is that my networth is “just” down by some 16%. But the bad thing is that 16% is A LOT of money compared to my annual savings. If I count from the peak value of my company holdings, it is actually down by about 70% by itself. And the numbers in the raw data that I’m using are all after-tax money, instead of before-tax money for my portfolio, which include some hidden taxes for all the unrealized capital gain. If the stock market doesn’t cooperate, I could rename my website name to “how I lost a million dollar in my 30s”. The amount of loss is so ugly that I’m in no mood of calculating nor looking at it.
I guess it’s fate that I was too busy with work when the stock is high. Frankly, I didn’t know or check on how much I had. The most important lesson for everyone, make sure at all time, you know and track your networth before it disappears.
