Thomas,
Thanks for letting me and everyone else know. popurls helped me probably by about 70 hits per submission.

J.D.,
Really appreciate your sharing on the tips. I bet everyone can learn a thing or two from you & your site. Your stats are simply <br>amazingly breathless</br>.

Frugal writes: <i>I’m pretty much buried by just writing these posts.</i>

Heh. I can relate. I have so many plans for Get Rich Slolwy, but I'm pretty much buried just writing the posts. And taking care of Real Life.

I don't have any special secrets for generating traffic. My blog does get a great deal, it seems, but I can't point to specific reasons for that. I work hard at it, but hard work isn't the only ingredient. Many other bloggers work hard at it, too. I don't do any outside publicity, but people come. I try to provide quality content, and maybe that's the draw. (I think it helped that I had a moderately-successful personal weblog first. People already knew who I was.)

My advice is:

* go easy on the advertising
* keep your site layout relatively plain and simple
* post quality content (as mapgirl suggests, simply reposting other stuff generally doesn't work unless you're really big like BoingBoing or Lifehacker -- they can get away with it because they're good at choosing what's good, because they post often, and because they have a wide audience)
* add some variety -- I think many PF blogs are too money-centric, have too narrow of a scope

Basically, if you post information that will be useful to *others* (and not just to you), then you'll build an audience. Set goals. Work toward them.

That's right. I forgot about Links. Just look at the list of my links. I have plenty. By the way, My apology to my linked sites for not working on my links & link page yet. I'm pretty much buried by just writing these posts. But I promise I will get to it.

Getting on regional blogrolls has worked out really well for me. I pick up non-PF blog traffic sometimes through those sites.

Asking for links is another.

Making sure you are picked up by Google and sticking in meta tags into your HTML helps as well.

Writing interesting *original* content though really can't be beat. I skip over serial link re-posters if they aren't value-adding new commentary or insight.

Yeah, it's work, but it's been worth it.
