  • 1stMillionAt33 is back online – was my worst 24 hours

That was the worst 24 hours since I started blogging. Obviously, as you can see, I’m no expert in all these things. Seeing my site went down, my emotion goes from being angry, nervous, panic, helpless, despair, surrender, acceptance, regrouping, and resolute to come back and blog for more, ALL in 24 hours.

With that said, I will probably take a small break for this weekend. Emotionally and physically I am quite exhausted. But certainly I will be back on Monday, as usual at 8am EST, 5am PST. And I’m going to install a plugin for automatic daily backup of my database.

As far as I can track, there were 2 comments by users and 1 comment by myself lost after this backup. Maybe there is 1 or 2 more. I will try my best to put them back, and/or notify the people involved.

    Have a nice weekend, everyone.

which host are you with? I’ve had asmallorange as my host since 04 and am quite happy with them.

I’m at dreamhost. They had a big problem with some part of their network. Even though I was not affected by that, it still took 24 hours for them to respond to my inquiry, which turned out to be quite simple to solve.

Dreamhost. Having been hearing quite a bit about them from various quarters. For reliability’s sake, I would suggest switching soon. Dreamhost oversells a lot and because of that perfomance suffers. I had a friend’s website kicked off dreamhost because they were using too much cpu. So the declaration that you get huge diskspace and bandwidth really has no meaning. Having experienced it with 3 hosting services until now, I’m happy to be with a host who provides fast servers and and is reliable.
