Rag2riches,

Thanks for the support. Capital has no loyalty. But the owner of capital can always spend it at the right place, according to one's ideals & patriotism. Definitely agree with you on all the points.

I don't think there is anything unpatriotic about investing against the US dollar. My logic is that as Americans, we need to make good financial decisions to maintain the American standard of living. Allocating our resources intelligently will help keep America strong. We make more money and pay more taxes.

Frugal: when giving the "appearance" of advice, simply add the suggesting of asset allocation (as you have) and that's the best you can do.

NGL: "Interesting post, I’m sure some people will find it to be unpatriotic to invest in foreign markets"
AFTER 9/11, and the markets reopened, there were those calling for investment in America and buying stocks to support our markets. I bought three stocks that day: GLW, AKAM, ARBA.
Guess what? All that talk awas just...talk as the big boys shorted the shit out of the market.
I made oodles of money on those buys and I also sold ridiculously too early.

NLG,
Canada is more correlated to US for sure.

By the way, do you think you can enlighten me on that Askimet feature? I'm a Wordpress idiot. Not sure if I have the older version of Askimet or what? I can't seem to find any place to do that, enabling previous commented users not to get spam-filtered.

Thanks.

Larry,
Definitely give you credit on your gold call of not to worry.
Thanks for all the stock tips that you are providing. I'm less brave in calling these things. It's okay that I lose money. But I don't want others losing money just because they read my blog, and follow it. That is the main reason that I usually try to stay vague or non-explicit or giving multiple advices at the same time. Unless I'm very sure, I don't want to call it.

Interesting post, I'm sure some people will find it to be unpatriotic to invest in foreign markets, but it's just smart financing to diversify your holdings. It is the same reason why as a Canadian, I am not interested in putting too much of my money into US equities at this time.

Re: comments, my askimet filter has a setting to allow comments from readers who have a previously accepted comment. I think this feature would be quite effective.

Now the downside of early hedges: I have been short QQQQ, SPY, T, & RSP for several months. Obviously, since August that hasn't looked too smart. Combine that with the lack of movement in mining stocks and my stock account has mad little progress in this recent big up move. I also own many specialty biotech companies that may provide upside in the future (or not): ASTM, EXAS, MHA, NVD, POTP, PRW, QLTI, STEM, VQPH, QLTI, & MLNM.

Recall I suggested to not worry about the pullback in Precious Metals about 5 weeks ago? Feeling a bit better?

Larry,

Thanks for listing your hedges. Those are a good "collection" that you have.

As on accepting "posts immediately", do you mean accepting comments in the comment section? Unfortunately, I didn't design Akismet Spam filter in my Wordpress platform. I must have it to filter out constant spams coming in because the volume of the spams is daily and really terrible sometimes. I don't know how it catches spams, but I suspect that it may be using all the database from all the bloggers who use Akismet, and then decide which ones should be kept as spam. Extremely effectively actually.

In any case, I usually release those within 1 or 2 days. I understand it's a inconvenience for everyone involved. But the other alternative, it's actually a lot more work for me. False positives are so much less compared to true negatives.

1. "Why not just invest in an unhedged foreign stock index fund?" - Because, today, they really aren't "hedges", per se.

2. Frugal: your hard work on this blog shows daily! May I suggest that you change your settings to accept posts immediately knowing that you can always delete later.....

3. Here's where i am as "hedged" as I can possibly be:
a. Precious Metals funds:(GOLDX & SGDAX), stocks, trusts (CEF), and physical silver.
b. International funds: ARTKX & KGDAX and, GGT, LDF,
c. Specialty Funds: PTTDX, PPIAX, PRPFX
d. Commodity Funds: GCS & FAX
