Hey 1st Million,

I hope you'll excuse my posting a link here, but after reading this posting, I decided to take a position in ERH. I put more details up on my blog...

Thanks again for blogging about stocks, I've found a couple of good picks from your site. While I'm on the topic, how do you pick stocks anyways?

Thanks,

Thc,

Interesting experience you must have had there. I agree that inflation has been running higher than CPI and will likely remain high, so that a pure "fixed income" portfolio wouldn't do well.

On the floating rate loan funds, the ones I'm looking at are senior debentures that are a little safer. But of course there are lots of nooks and crannies I know nothing about. Care to share from you past life?

I started my career in the brokerage industry 12 years ago hustling floating rate loan funds. Then, a bunch of them blew up early in this decade after too many defaults. These days I believe retirees are too heavily invested in fixed income. Retirement can easily last 30-40 years and you better maintain a significant exposure to equities if you expect your money to last.
