My wife and I only use costco for non perishables.

When it comes to

Diapers (we use cloth but he wears a disposable at night)
Baby Wipes
Formula
Laundry and Dish soap
Garbage Bags
Toilet Paper
Tooth paste and Tooth brushes
Shampoo and conditioner

Costco is by far the best choice.

I really love Costco, but I agree it pushes you into overconsumption or waste, my wife and I love many of their products but sometimes waste perishables. It is an excellent place for frozen food, auto accessories, beer & liquor (can U say overconsumption), electronics and books/dvds. For a small family it doesn't make sense to buy produce or bread there. Perhaps if your into freezing everything, I mean, how can 2 people eat 2 loaves of bread and 12 bagels in a week!
